Tango and Tea

On the stage of MCCC Meyer Theater, arranged in a crescent, were fifteen tables dressed in white linen table cloths, adorned with red long stem roses and china tea cups.

About 70 guests gathered at the tables to enjoy The Tango Tea, an event directed by Kellie Laginess, MCCC dance instructor.

Guests were treated to tea or coffee and a variety of desserts, while dancers weaved their way around the stage, displaying the numerous versions and interpretations of the Argentine Tango.

The master of ceremonies, Mark Felder, presented a brief history of the Tango between each variation of the dance.

Guests participated in two brief “lessons,” giving them a personal taste of Tango.

A $50 gift certificate for free ballroom dance lessons and a $20 gift certificate for the British Tea Garden (Tecumseh) were given as door prizes.

A highlight of the evening was the Tango/Viennese Waltz performed by Allen Desterhaft and Rachel Mercedes, friends of Laginess who came from Chicago to perform.

The music for this segment was “Don Quijote (the ballet)” by composer Leon Minkus
