Cooking for a cause

MCCC’s first Chili & Soup Cook-Off raised a total of $1,852.09 for the Kimberly Reaume Memorial Scholarship.

The cook-off, which took place Nov. 18, raised $652.09 from donations placed in plastic containers in front of each chili and soup entry.

Kimberly’s parents donated $1,000, and a family friend donated $200.

Winners for best chili and soup were chosen based on who had the most money in the container in front of their chili or soup.

The winner for the best chili was Mark Kohler; coordinator of Alumni and Resource Development Beth Kohler’s husband.

Mark’s meaty chili raised $58.51 in donations.

Penny Bodell, administrative assistant to the Vice President of Student and Information Services, won best soup wth her Smashing Pumpkin Soup, which raised $49.50 in donations.

The winners each received a $10 gift card to Panera Bread.

Denice Lewis, administrative assistant to the Director of Learning Resources, sold bread that raised $107 for the scholarship.

“What a great start to this new scholarship in memory of Kim,” Tom Ryder, student activities coordinator, wrote in an e-mail.
