Motion-sensor gaming, buttons or body?
At this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), both Microsoft and Sony unveiled the latest in video game technology.
Microsoft announced the upcoming Kinect for Xbox 360, which is a motion sensor that uses your body as the controller.
All you have to do is simply step in front of the sensor and it recognizes you, responds to your gestures, and listens to you.
As well as the Kinect, Microsoft announced there will be 15 games that will be available this holiday, including, “Kinect Adventures,” “Kinectimals,” “Kinect Joy Ride,” “Kinect Sports,” “Dance Central,” and “Your Shape: Fitness Evolved.”
“Your living room will become a zoo, a stadium, a fitness room or a dance club,” Kudo Tsunoda, creative director for Microsoft Game Studios, said in a news release.
“You will be in the center of your entertainment.”
Sony came with a different attitude.
With controllers that resemble the Nintendo Wii, Sony Move has 1-on-1 tracking in 3D space, meaning you can move the controller in all directions.
There is also a navigator controller, which is similar to the Wii nunchuck but connects wirelessly and is amped up with buttons.
“We are transforming the way consumers interact and consume content in the living room and we’ve been redefining this entertainment experience now for 15 years,” Jack Tretton, CEO and President of SCEA, said in a news release.
Sony has an advantage when it comes to games.
They will have their own Playstation Move games, and also other already popular games such as; “Infamous 2,” “Grand Turismo 5,” “LittleBigPlanet 2,” and “Killzone 3.”
Microsoft Kinect is bumping up the competition and stepping it up a notch when it comes to watching movies, listening to music, watching TV, and communicating with family and friends.
Kinect takes your favorite movies, TV shows, music and live sports and puts it all in one place, enabling you to interact controller-free.
You can watch your favorite movie in HD or watch a college bowl game by simply saying “Xbox, play,” or go through your entire music library by waving your hand.
One of the biggest issues for consumers is price. The Sony Move has proved to be a bit more inexpensive than the Microsoft Kinect.
If you are planning on buying the Sony Move this is what you will need; Controller: $50, Navigator Controller: $30, and games: $40/each.
Sony is also offering a bundle for $100 in which includes; Eye camera, controller, and Sports Champions game.
The Kinect hub alone will run you $150 and games will be $60.
There’s also a bundle available for $399 in which includes; a 250GB slim Xbox 360, motion tracker, spare controller, and the game Kinect Adventures!
You can pick up the Sony Move on Sept. 19 and the Microsoft Kinect on Nov. 4.
