Kojo Quartey talks about MCCC during the State of the College address at MB&T Friday morning.

MCCC’s new vision, non-credit enrollment, and future plans were among the topics covered during the State of the College address Friday morning at Monroe Bank & Trust's headquarters.

Joe Verkennes, director of Marketing and Communications, spoke about MCCC’s new mission statement, vision, and core values - comparing them to older ones.

Grace Yackee, vice president of Instruction, spoke about the increase in non-credit enrollment, saying over 4,500 students were enrolled in non-credit courses and programs during the 2017-2018 year.

Suzanne Wetzel, vice president of Administration, addressed current millage projects, including new technology and the East and West Tech renovations.

President Kojo Quartey talked about community activities, including students involved in Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), as well as the Agriculture Program and community farm.

He went over future plans, including more apprenticeships, a new, soon to be offered drone technology course, and a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant.

Students Maribeth and Samuel Mohn and Matthew Nelson were recognized by Team Virus 3547 mentor Jeff Demaray.

“I think the college is really moving in a positive direction.  I think that we’re going to be providing some additional curriculum that’s going to be beneficial to the community,” said Board of Trustees member Steven Hill.  “I think that will lead to growth for our enrollment at the community college and provide motivation for business to move to the area.”
