Forum informs voters of candidate positions

City Council candidates sit on a panel to inform community members of their plans for Monroe.

A forum for Monroe City Council candidates and mayor and clerk-treasurer positions was held on Wednesday, Nov 1.

The Agora sponsored the event, which was held in the atrium of the La-Z-Boy Center.

Seven city council candidates were joined by the mayor and clerk-treasurer, who are running unopposed.

Paula Whitman is the incumbent and Jeffrey Hensley the challenger for Precinct 1. Kellie Vining is the incumbent and J. Pat McElligot the challenger for Precinct 3. Michelle Germani is running unopposed for Precinct 4.

Gloria Rafko is the incumbent and Brian Lamour is the challenger for Precinct 5. Andrew Felder and Jacob McLaughlin are challengers for the vacant Precinct 6 position.

Robert Clark is running for a fifth term as mayor, and Michelle LaVoy is running for her third clerk-treasurer term.

Several students, community members, and supportive politicians attend the candidate forum.
