College administration yet to respond to vaccine mandate

MCCC officials are still evaluating the best way to respond to the federal government’s vaccine mandate.

President Joe Biden announced on Sept. 24 that the Department of Labor developed an emergency vaccination rule. The rule requires either a full vaccination status or a weekly negative COVID test from each employee working at an establishment with 100 or more people.

“This is a pandemic of the unvaccinated,” Biden said in his announcement.

MCCC President Kojo Quartey sent out a campus wide email on Oct. 18, which stated that all indoor facilities require a mask for entrance.

“This applies to everyone on campus,” Quartey wrote.

However, Quartey did not address Biden’s vaccine mandate.

Linda Torbet, director of Human Resources, said the administrative cabinet has not formalized a plan.

Torbet said the college is waiting for more direction from Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
